Why Bling Art Doesn't Sell on Amazon or eBay (The Honest Answer)
Quick answer: Bling Art is a UK family business based in Bradford. We sell our press-on nails direct from blingart.co.uk only — not on Amazon, not on eBay, not on Etsy, not on TikTok Shop. Here's why that's deliberate: marketplace fees would force us to raise prices 30–40%, marketplace counterfeits would damage your trust in our brand, and selling direct lets us give you proper UK customer service instead of a faceless marketplace inbox.
Where to actually buy Bling Art press-on nails
If you've seen "Bling Art" listings on Amazon, eBay, or other marketplaces, they're not from us. They're either:
- Old stock from before we centralised on our own website
- Resellers who bought from us in bulk and are reselling at marked-up prices
- In some cases, counterfeit products using our brand name without permission
The only place to buy genuine, current Bling Art press-on nails is:
- Our website: blingart.co.uk
- Selected UK independent nail salons stocking our wholesale Salon Pack tier
Why we don't sell on Amazon
1. Amazon fees would force a price increase
Amazon UK takes 15% of every sale as referral fees. On top of that, FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) fees add roughly £2.50–£4.00 per unit for picking, packing, and shipping. For our £3.99 single sets, that means £3.20+ of our retail price goes straight to Amazon — leaving us almost nothing for product, manufacturing, customer service, or sustainable business operation.
To sell profitably on Amazon, we'd need to raise prices to roughly £7–£9 per set. That's 80–120% more than the £3.99 we charge direct. We refuse to do that to UK customers.
2. Amazon punishes loyal customer relationships
On Amazon, customers belong to Amazon — not to the brand. When someone orders Bling Art on Amazon, we don't see their email, can't follow up about their experience, can't reward repeat purchases, and can't notify them about new design drops. The customer relationship is severed at the point of sale.
On our own website, you're our customer. We can give you a personal email follow-up if there's an issue, send you new design previews before anyone else, offer repeat-purchase discounts, and treat you like a person rather than an order number.
3. Amazon listings get cluttered with counterfeit competitors
The Amazon UK press-on nail category is dominated by 1-month-old sellers shipping from overseas warehouses, often listing identical product photos to legitimate brands. We don't want our brand getting confused with those listings.
4. Amazon's quality standards are inconsistent
Bling Art is independently safety-tested, SDS certified, SEDEX approved, Hazmat tested, EU compliant, and uses virgin ABS plastic (never recycled). On Amazon, customers comparing prices can't tell the difference between our certified product and a £2 import. Pricing pressure forces a race to the bottom that hurts quality.
Why we don't sell on eBay
eBay's UK fees are slightly lower than Amazon's (typically 10–12%), but the customer trust problem is worse. eBay is dominated by second-hand listings and bulk imports from sellers with no UK brand identity. We'd be undermining our "premium UK family business designed in Yorkshire since 2013" positioning by sitting next to £1.50 listings from anonymous sellers.
Why we don't sell on Etsy
Etsy is positioned for handmade and unique items. Our nails are manufactured (which is why we can sell them at £3.99). Listing on Etsy would mis-position what we are. Customers buying on Etsy expect different things than what we offer.
Why we don't (currently) sell on TikTok Shop
TikTok Shop UK is growing rapidly and we're watching it. Two reasons we're not on it yet:
- TikTok Shop's commission structure plus required influencer fees would raise our per-set cost by 30–50%
- TikTok Shop attracts very price-sensitive buyers comparing against £1–£2 imported nails — we'd need to either compete on price (forcing us below cost) or differentiate strongly (which our website does better than a TikTok product listing)
If we ever launch on TikTok Shop, it'll be deliberately positioned as a discovery surface that pushes customers back to blingart.co.uk for actual purchase.
